Ore has found his calling!
|
Last week, a really nice woman came into the Shelter to look for a dog for her son
who has leukemia- she wanted to get him a Companion Service Dog . She need a
well behaved dog, no puppy stuff etc. Her son is 14 yrs old and in hospice. Just
under 2 years ago her 18 year old son died in a vehicle accident....
At the Shelter, we did not have a dog matching her son's need. I thought about
how Ore would be perfect and how Ore would get one-on-one 24 hour attention
from Zane her son, and how Ore had been a Delta Pet Partner Dog several years
ago.... Ore would be getting the level of attention that I could never provide to him
and Zane would get the companion he needed....
Long story shortened a bit, Conscience (Zane's mom) and Zane came up on
Saturday and met Ore with Mike (since I was stuck in AJ due to the vehicle accident)
and they took Ore home. Actually, they drove directly to a Companion Service Dog
class in Queen Creek for Ore's 1st class. Of course he was top of his class in
obedience and he is expected to go from Service Dog in training to a full Service
Dog in 2 to 3 weeks! He has been to 2 classes so far, he is plastered to Zane - his
mom told me that Zane has to get his mom to keep Ore when Zane needs to go to
the bathroom! The big thing happened last night. Mom and dad sleep downstairs
while Ore and Zane sleep upstairs. At 2 AM Ore started barking like crazy- it woke
up the parents- they thought Ore might be attacking Zane. Turned out Zane was
having a seizure and Ore was alerting them!!! They would never have known about
the seizure if not for Ore - they are so thankful to have him. Today Ore went to
school with Zane. They announced his presence to the whole school- no petting
the dog- service dog etc. He wears a vest and loves to have it on- they said that
whenever they get the vest Ore stands perfectly so they can put it on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The mom told me that Ore could not be more perfect- they were made for each
other- Zane and Ore.
Here is the website where you can see he is registered as a Companion Service
Dog #1228619293. Zane Thompson is the handler.

It is a miracle. As much as I love Ore, I know that this is his calling in life.
Just wanted to let you all know,
Willow
Update
Shortly after Orie went to be with his new family he was diagnosed with cancer. He
came back to us and put him down here at home. He now rests up on the top of
the hill over looking the kennel. His time was too short doing what his true calling
was but those few days were some of the best in his life.
